I would like to send a special thank you to all of Fafco Solar’s customers, my co-workers, and Dan Morrissey for a great year. Christmas is a time of giving, and solar is the gift that keeps on giving all year ’round. I’m happy to be part or the solar industry and this great company!

I am lucky enough to be spending the morning with the amazing team at Internet Service Group of Florida. Charly Caldwell and his team have made this blog possible by setting it up and hosting it, but it would not have happened if for the last time we got together.

ISG Way is Charly’s quarterly “staff meeting” that is more like an internal sales pitch with a chance for his staff to get reacquainted and focused. He invites some current and prospective customers to see how they do business from the inside and to learn about the people at ISG.

At the last ISG Way, Charly gave all attendees a book, Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuk. I had always wanted to start a blog, but this book pushed me over the top.

Crush It is all about finding your passion, social media, and building your personal brand – living and working your passion and doing it in the new media era. I’m loving what I am doing in the solar contracting industry, I’ve gained considerable knowledge and experience, and I want to share it in a productive way. The Solar Southwest Florida blog is a natural and obvious result of this.

Welcome to my blog. My name is Jason Szumlanski. I am the Operations Manager at Fafco Solar. We sell and install just about everything solar. My work here has included some of the most exciting and interesting professional experiences that I have encountered.

Anyway, I’m not here to talk about my work. I’m here to talk about what I love about my work. I get to meet interesting people each day, from the customer who knows nothing about solar, to the building inspector who thinks they know everything about solar, to the suppliers and manufacturers who actually do know most everything about solar. Southwest Florida is a great place to study, practice, and engage in solar energy production.

I can get quite technical at times, so I apologize in advance if that’s not what you are looking for. However, I plan to put things in terms that everyone can understand while making observations that are not widely known.

Finally, I plan to gear the discussion to solar energy as it relates to this geographical area. We have all kinds of interesting things to consider when talking about solar energy like sweltering heat, seasonal residents, hurricanes, a generally older demographic, shady contractors, lightning, and more.
